This movie has all the trappings of a masala entertainer including an item number by Sunny Leone. The film traces the life of SRK's character Raees from his impoverished childhood to the flamboyant gangster out to make quick money through smuggling of liquor. The film shows flashes of many films of the 70s and 80s and there is not much originality. We have the usual cop ( Nawazuddin) hot on his trail and wanting to drag him to jail. We again have the usual police Politician nexus and the good cop caught in between, But does the film rise to great dramatic heights? Frankly no. Are there any moments of impactful dialogue or one liners? Not exactly. Only one stands out " ammi kahti thi koi dhanda chota nahin hota ". As expected it is SRK's film through and through. He breaks away from his romantic image and his fans are loving it. He commands a strong presence with a smart get up. Nawazuddin impresses as a the cool determined cop.
