Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab KahaniWatch trailerRelease date : November 06, 2009

Yes, the above statement aptly justifies the unexpected success of Ajab Prem ki Gajab Kahaani at the box office and its popularity among the masses. This movie is far better than just another run-of-the mill romantic comedy as it still brings the fond memories of the time when it released way back in 2009, when these light romantic comedies were a staple diet for the Bollywood fans. Interestingly, the success of this film was a kickstart to the rise of one of the brightest futures of Bollywood, and also gave the nation a new romantic heartthrob in the form of Ranbir Kapoor. Further, this movie was Raj Kumar Santoshi’s second comedy film after 15 years, after making several successful movies in the action and social-drama genre like Khakhi, Damini, Ghayal, & Halla Bol, to name a few . Having directed the cult classic Andaz Apna Apna in 1994, there were high expectations from Rajkumar Santoshi, and thankfully, he doesn’t disappoint. Ranbir plays a spoilt yet innocent young brat names Premshankar who falss in love with Katrina Kaif (Jenny Pinto) & the rest of the film portrays the hilarious and fun-filled ride of their romantic tale. The humorous dialogues and gripping story written by K.Rajeshwar and Rajkumar Santoshi, the superhit and melodious soundtrack of the film and the beautiful locations like Istanbul, Goa, Ooty, Pamukkale, and Mumbai, just elevate the class of the film to an altogether different level. But, the audiences are in for a special and surprising treat as Ranbir Kapoor’s pitch-perefct performance, electrifying dancing skills, and his charming screen-presence as the romantic hero just make the film seem like a classic vanilla cake with ample of perfectly placed comic scenes, the flawless chemistry of Katrina & Ranbir, and the brilliant performances of the supporting cast including Drashan Jariwala (Shivshankar), Smita Jaykar as Sharda, Zakir Hussain as Sajid & Upen Patel in a cameo as Rahul P.Jalan. Katrina Kaif yet again sizzles the screen with her amazing beauty and dancing skills. The plot of the young man willing to sacrifice his own love to make sure that the people around him are happy is made endearing by Kapoor’s acting skills which is fruitfully utilized in the film and most importantly the thin storyline has been compensated weel by a string of hilarious gags and laugh-out-loud scenes. Ranbir’s comic timing is commendable and he handles the emotional scenes also very well with effortlessness. He imbues the character with a likeable innocence and vulnerability, that will appear very affable to his ever-growing female fan following. All-in-all, it a double thumbs up to this yet another successful but different romantic comedy from Bollywood, and looking back by almost a decade, we also realize the degree and intensity to which the films have changed from being high-budget candy bloss dreams to being much more realistic, impactful, and hard-hitting cinema with a social issue at the core of its heart.
