Verdict - Very amateurish direction but still a pretty likeable move.

    UnIndianWatch trailerRelease date : August 19, 2016

UnIndian is set in Australia and takes a dig at the Indian community abroad in a very affectionate poke you in the ribs kind of way.

Will, an Australian teacher falls in love with an Indian woman with a ten year old daughter. He has to negotiate confusing terrain with questions on how to date an Indian woman and how to deal with her parents, topping the list. To add some more drama there is the problematic ex-husband ad also Will's problem with his job.

The direction is very amateurish which leads to a lot of stilted scenes and dialogues that seem artificial but the movie is made with sincerity and that makes it pretty likeable and an easy watch. There are some good jokes that keep the pace light hearted and the non- filmy, normal characters make you feel engaged with their lives. The chemistry between the three buddies one of whom is Indian and who provides the much needed information about Indian ways to his Aussie friend is very natural and quite amusing. The interaction between the hero and the young daughter is also very endearing.

Brett Lee who makes his acting debut is not a great actor but he is sweet and you warm up to his character. Tannishtha Chaterjee in the romantic lead is a bit flat but Maya Sathi as her daughter Smita does a very good job. Supriya Pathak and Akash Khurana bring some much needed professional acting to the school play set up and are a pleasure to watch as always.

The flow of the movie is pretty stop and start much like a learner would drive a car but it still remains watchable. The jokes are funny, the story realistic and simple and the characters are pleasant. I enjoyed it. Not a bad watch.
