Verdict
“Po can never go without a laugh, even if it has to be for the 3rd time.”
The third installment of the Kung Fu Panda franchise sees its protagonist, Po, go through the exact same drill that he's already been through. The film is filled with moments of humour that keep you watching, but it's hard to shake off the feeling that you've seen this exact same film several time before. Kung Fu Panda 3 neatly ticks off all the check boxes, perhaps to make sure that the fans get what they want; but this also hurts the film because while keeping all the elements that contributed to the enormous success of the previous film intact, the film hardly offers anything new. That said, it doesn't do a half bad job at following the book - the jokes mostly work, as do the story beats where Po goes through the routine of going from an unconfident nobody to a hero. It’s not unwatchable by any measure, but one can't help but wish that they'd aimed a bit higher.
