Two sisters, Katie and Kristi befriend an entity who is invisible and resides in their room.

“Prequel to the first two parts, Paranormal Activity 3 comes with an interesting storyline presented in an intriguing manner. But a half baked script and scarcity of chills restrict it to a one-time-watch.”

Paranormal Activity 3 is perhaps the longest that this idea of Footage Horror Genre can be extended to. For clearly, this edition has a lot less in terms of actual spine chilling fear and lot more tedious viewing.

The film is a prequel to the first two parts, and is set in 1988, where a presence is being documented by a family after they realize that the daughter is speaking to an imaginary friend who seems to be more than just a figment of the kid's imagination. The story is meant to explain the why's and how's of the previous two installments in the series.

The film follows the same old pattern, hand held camera footage makes for most of the film. Shaky camera, sudden change of frames, the third time round it takes little time to get used to the film's feel.

What is new in this edition however, is that fact that it is a little more Film like when compared to the previous two. There are characters that come in and go, the spaces are open visually, there is a lesser sense of severe confinement and there is a script to boot. While this at times kills the rough edgy feel of the first two films, it also makes PA3 less of a gimmick and more of an evolving franchise.

I personally would have loved a lot more chills. PA1 did scare me, PA 2 was lame. PA 3 is somewhere int he middle of the scare meter. Yet watch it for some fun and scares in the theater. You would not leave the hall disappointed.
