Verdict - Blending "War of the Worlds" in a teen drama wont make it for the new wave!

    The 5th WaveWatch trailerRelease date : January 22, 2016

The Fifth Wave is the tale of a young Cassie (Chloe Grace Moretz) who struggles all the way through an apocalypse to reunite with her brother. In her journey, she meets few interesting people, one being the cute-ish and hunk-ish teen who helps her reach her destiny. She chances upon piles of wreckage caused by aliens and the US military is hell-bent on running a training ops to fight against the extra-terrestrials. That's the plot and no cookie to guess that Cassie has to free her brother from the clutches of the military.

The movie crosses paths with all the bravado sci-fi films that promise large and deliver less resulting in Hollywood noise. This film's also no exception to that. It starts as a fun film with alien invasion as its central theme, but over its course transcends into a heavy commentary on future and the fate of the world lying in the hands of teens.

Chloe shows her desperation well as she slides into the film. Few startling revelations in the large schema of things make her go berserk and I must admit she is the only selling feature of the nearly 2 hour din of a film. The twists are all predictable and the entertainment just passes the muster. Again, you have watched all these so many times that it's difficult glue your eyeballs for long.

A series of waves starting from the first to fifth encompass the film. The scenes with these waves are visually arresting but the other stuff between these waves make you sleep. So, this movie easily fits the category of having all the dough but couldn't come out as a finely baked product. Moreover, lack of emotional connect with the characters and the follow of events makes it a tiresome watch.

Director Blakeson has to learn that blending War of the Worlds in a teen drama wont make it for the new wave!
