Verdict - The Rock has been cookin' up a pretty good movie.

The legend of Hercules is well known, even amongst those not into greek mythology. Apparently, it was quite the exaggeration. Or so this movie would like us to believe.

Meet Hercules (The Rock/ Dwayne Johnson), son of Zeus, strongest man alive, hero of the people and … a mercenary. You see, Hercules, the legend, was the leader of a greek A-Team, comprising of a femme fatale (they were called amazons in that time), a brit accented assassin (apparently Spartans were pretty big into getting a British education), a soothsayer/drug enthusiast (probably on LSD), a warrior manchild, and his storytelling nephew. Tales of his bravery and his skill reach the ears of Lord Cotys, the ruler of Thrace. Cotys sends his daughter Ergenia, to enlist his services, in their fight to save Thrace from a rebellion. Hercules agrees, and begins training Cotys' men for war. It's not so simple though. Hercules is running from his past, which is threatening to catch up with him. His wife and children were butchered in unexplained circumstances, and he was blamed for it and thrown out of Athens.

You go to a Dwayne Johnson movie looking for some good action scenes, and this movie serves it in spades. The Rock has some truly spectacular fights which are as over the top as they are grin inducing. The movie can get quite cheesy at times, but it rights itself without going to far in that direction. All the actors have played their parts with heart, especially Dwayne. The villains are suitably detestable, and the sidekicks, likeable. If you're an action movie buff, then Hercules will check all your boxes. It's a decent flick, if not a particularly memorable one.
