Verdict - Brilliant visuals save the day.

Cedric Nicholas-Troyan, Academy Award nominee for the first release of Snowwhite is at the helm of this movie. His Academy Award nomination was visual effects but this is his debut movie as a director. That inexperience shows when it comes to etching out his characters. In a movie, that gives us the backstory for what happens in the first edition, the audience are left out with pretty bland black and white characters - the rivalry between Ravenna and Freya played by Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt. Meanwhile Sarah played by Jessica Chastain and Huntsman Chris Hemsworth have very little chemistry going. Theron impresses with her chilling Queen Ravenna although we are left asking for a lot more. The biggest draw of the movie is the visual effects which are sensational especially in 3D and will be worth the watch for families. The end result is a little too easy and there isn't much character development and context setting in terms of relationship between the two sisters. The comic relief by the dwarfs hardly matters. All in all a movie you may miss without missing anything but can watch for visual effects without being bored too much!
