The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that actress Michelle Williams is in talks to play the lead role in the upcoming Janis Joplin biopic. The movie will be directed by Sean Durkin and will be titled ‘Janis’. Joplin was a rock icon in the 1960s and is known for her songs ‘Piece of My Heart’ and ‘Cry Baby’.
The biopic will be based on the book titled ‘Love Janice’ which was written by the singer’s sister Laura Joplin. The book has been based on the letters Janice wrote to her friends and family. It also shines light on her drug addiction and alcohol problems during the last six months of her life. The rock icon died at the age of 27 from a heroin overdose.
Clara Brennan and Andrew Renzi will be writing the screenplay for the biopic. Michelle is currently rehearsing for ‘The Greatest Showman on Earth’ which is also a biopic, on PT Barnum. She will be sharing screen space with Hugh Jackman. The actress has a couple of projects lined up including 'Certain Women’ and ‘Manchester by the Sea'.
