Bobby Jasoos is a film that celebrates the aspiration of Bobby, who wants to become the number one detective in the old city area of Hyderabad.

“Vidya Balan succeeds in providing us with entertainment, entertainment and entertainment once again. Bobby Jasoos is a fun and charming mystery movie but a choppy climax and story loopholes let it down. This is no 'Kahani' but it's still worth a watch! ”

The rains came to Mumbai and brought with them some cool fresh air and a good movie finally after weeks of enduring muggy weather and gloomy Friday mornings. Bobby Jasoos is a superb entertainer and a no-brainer for your weekend movie plans.

Bilkis aka Bobby is from a traditional Hyderabadi family, living in the old city of Hyderabad. She wants to be a detective much against her father's wishes. But she perseveres, with the help of a few sidekicks and lands a big case helping a man trace a missing person. Her success in this case gives her another commission from the same client and then things start to get a little murky. What will Bobby find? While looking for a missing person will Bobby also find love?

The movie clips along at a brisk pace leaving you involved in her case and her life. There is no time wasted on fripperies and yet there are funny moments and a good portrait of Bobby's family. You even get a good tour of Hyderabadi biryani places that pretty much made me drool.

Till the interval the movie is pretty much flawless with even the one song getting woven into the script very well. Post interval I felt there was a bit of a drag with an unnecessary romantic number. The last part of the movie gets too sentimental which clashes with the general no-nonsense tone of the movie. Thankfully though, this phase passes quickly enough and in the end the movie goes back to its cheerful practical self.

Vidya as Bobby is first rate. She is enthusiastic, spirited and surprisingly agile for someone who is so out of shape. Her various disguises are great fun to watch. I only wish she would get fitter. It would make her look so much better. Ali Fazal (you may have seen him in Fukrey) as her now-on, now-off fiance is the perfect support for Bobby. He is charming and romantic. The rest of the cast form a strong net of performances on which the movie bounces along.

This is one time when I can heartily say I liked a movie. Its funny, sharp, well paced and boasts a solid story line. No clever deductive powers needed to recommend this one. Can take kids.
