Coming together after their successful collaboration in 2015's Dum Laga Ke Haisha, both Ayushmann and Bhumi Pednekar have come together for this one. Shubh Man...more

There are movies that are made for the sole purpose of entertainment. There are a few others that are meant to deliver a message! Some aim to paint the characters and situations as close to reality as possible- compelling you to relate yourself to the situation and thus encouraging you to come along in the journey that the film undertakes. Shubh Mangal Savdhaan is a film that has all these elements mixed in the right proportions to give you one amazing experience at the theatres.

The film is simple. The Delhi ka launda Mudit falls for the sweet and simple Suggu aka Sugandha. There is that longing looks, some stares, confrontation and a confession of love followed by a proposal. All well so far. But things go 'phuss' as one day Suggu and Mudit get a little intimate and Mudit realizes that his biscuit drowns way too soon in the tea ( if you know what I mean). Anxiety follows, as does family pressure to prove his mardangi. Will Mudit be able to stand for love? Well the film will tell!

The tale told is as simple as you can imagine. The characters are relatable AF. But the best part of the film is how it has been handled. But then again, this movie is also proof that Bollywood has a long way to go when it comes to the maintaining the tempo in the second half.

The first half was extraordinarily entertaining. There is not a single second where you would not be laughing. In fact the entire theatre was bursting into laughter every now and then. The second half was OK, but compared to the first half it was nothing. Yes there was necessity for the tone to get serious but why the over dramatization in the end?

Coming to the performances, Ayushmann and Bhumi work up their charm once again. They are terrific together on-screen and they totally complement each other. They are two simpletons, madly in love, but trying to sort the problems that are imminent. The conviction with which they potray the characters are commendable!

Ayushmann is in his top form. While Meri Pyaari bindu too was great, but marred by a lackluster ending, Bareily Ki Barfi proved to be a winner. And now with this, he is definitely proving that he is here to stay!

Bhumi Pednekar too is in no mood to slow down. This is the third film of her career and it has hit written all over it! She is wise and we can just hope that she always chooses her role just as smartly!

The side characters too are a talented bunch of people who are adding the perfect amount of masala in the movie.

The music is well-timed, with all the songs fitting absolutely perfectly in the entire narrative. The screenplay too scores big. You see the society wale of Delhi and the lanes and bylanes of Haridwar! The setting helps to keep the film grounded and closer to reality!

The film has its high point in the second half as well. The way it takes on patriarchy is something you rarely find in Bollywood. (SPOILER ALERT) Right from where the father asks Sugandha to leave because the society will blame the women but she fights on, to the point where Mudit marries the banana tress because he is the one with the 'dosh', it will make you give a shoutout to the makers! (SPOILER ENDS)

Had there not been the over dramatic scene, this film could have been one of the most perfect film of the year. But then, there is no doubt that this is one of the best and most entertaining films of the year! This is definitely a must watch and you might just want to see it again after watching it once!
