Veere Di WeddingRelease date : June 01, 2018

This film is chiefly about four friends, hailing from top-notch posh families of Delhi, who have been together since school days, talking about marriage and still babbling and cringing about marriage 10 years down the line. As one of them, Kalindi, is getting married, the four gal bros come together for their veere’s wedding. But obvious, there can be no shaadi without some bragging and a lot of melodrama. This wedding celebration brings out unspoken truths and some harsh realities. Later, in the second half, when they unfold some differences among them, they plan a trip to Phuket to bring down their clash and enjoy life queen-size.

This piece of art starts with discussing shaadi-waadi and ends at the same. There’s nothing to take back with you other than increasing your brand knowledge and know, if already don’t, about the big fat Punjabi weddings.

We’ve rarely seen women on screen who are so unrestrained about their life, sexuality and desires. In that respect, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is a bold effort. This film has already casted its charm on the younger generations who can relate to the discussions and dilemmas of these ladies.

The four leading ladies break the stereotypical glass ceiling with their high heels. All the girls are glamorously dressed and styled in every shot, whether they’re partying, working, thinking or just having a good time. They always wear designer outfits, sleep with make-up on, smoke and drink, and are not shy about sex or spouting cuss words. The chemistry between the actresses never feels hoax, but the situations into which they are forced rarely seem convincing.

The narrative further loosens in the second half, especially, when the characters are going through emotional crisis and setback. Their expressions, body language are not convincing enough to help you relate to the situation. Everything buzzes out, and even though Shikha Talsania and Swara Bhaskar are rampant, Veere Di Wedding ends up as an average film where neither the story nor the characters progress.

Songs are very peppy and are assured to set your foot tapping. Title track, ‘Veere’, touches the right chords and can rightly be called as a new friendship anthem; it feels as if it was written keeping in mind you and your girl-friends. ‘Tareefan’, on the other hand is groovy and alluring enough to bring out the sensuous dancer in you.

    Is it a must watch?

If not for the story solely, this film is worth at least a onetime watch for appreciating four actresses in the lead and ruling the screen. Not to miss, this film surely has the capacity to take one down the memory lane of incidents with their girl-friends. It subtly whispers at sensitive issues of family, bonding and trust.

I’m going with three out of five.
