Usually by the time any movie series hits its fifth movie, the franchise has run out of steam and is being milked for the last possible drop; that doesn't quite seem to be the case with the 'Fast & Furious' movies. With perhaps the exception of the first movie, the fifth entrant offers more bang for its buck than any of the previous entries have managed to do.

The formula remains essentially the same only everything right from the actors, cars, explosions, stunts seem to be pumped up with steroids so no stone is unturned in getting that adrenaline flowing in its target demographic of young males.

The story picks off directly from the ending of the fourth movie where Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) & Mia (Jordana Brewster) help Dom (Vin Diesel) escape en route to prison. The story then picks up a few months later in Rio De Janeiro where the three are offered to partake in a daring train robbery by Vince (Matt Schulze returning from part one). Things don't go as planned and the group owes a smooth-talking drug lord, Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), more than just money. Tired of being on the run from authorities and now criminals, Dom & Brian decide it's time for "one last job". A job so rewarding that it'll provide them financial and all other forms of security for the rest of their lives. Thus nearly every character from the previous entries is called in a la Ocean's Eleven style and a crack team is assembled. However the heist is no walk in the park and with Reyes commanding the loyalty of the police force things are nearly impossible to begin with. To further compound their troubles, a crack team of American security agents led by Luke Hobbs (Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) is assigned to apprehend Dom & Brian at any cost. Hobbs is more than an equal match in every aspect for Dom & Brian and seems to always be close on their heels no matter what they do. So will the crew be able to pull off the job & retire? The real question should be if they would return for a sixth part? By the looks of it, I'd say yes.

The movie is a melange of so many genre movies that it has diluted the core of the Fast & Furious movies to nothing more than one token street race. While there is plenty of glorious car metal-mashing mayhem on display, very little of what was in the first movie can be seen here and that is an indication of how well this franchise has adapted to changing times and still managed to feed its core audience with what it craves; a balls to the wall action packed experience.

The movie has two brilliantly choreographed action sequences that bookend the proceedings. If the daring train robbery at the start feels crazy & improbable then you should wait for the carnage unleashed in the last twenty minutes. Absolute bedlam I tell you and yet pretty well choreographed.

Don't bother yourself with the cheesy dramatics that the movie has to offer. If you enjoy it, revel in the posturing all the leads indulge in, flexing their biceps and mouthing lines that make them sound more macho and deep than they can express. When Diesel & Johnson duke it out, it's hard not to think what would have happened if these two were put in the Terminator movies.

If you enjoyed the earlier movies in the series, you are going to love this one. There are plenty of scantily clad women, drool-worthy cars, metal-crunching action and a likeable soundtrack to keep things lively. Just try not to get bored by the talky middle & ignore the inane cheesiness and pointless macho posturing and you might have quite a good time.
